Breast augmentation is the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery in the United States.
A woman's body goes through many changes as they age. As a result the breast is affected by pregnancy, weight changes, and surgery. Some women are born with breast asymmetries.
Breast augmentation is a safe and effective surgical procedure tailored to meet the needs of each patient. Prior to surgery
Dr. Paulk will meet with you in consultation. Your medical history will be obtained to evaluate your overall health. Then he will obtain very specific breast measurements along with a thorough exam. Photographs will also be taken at this time. Each patient over age thirty five is required to have a negative mammogram within the past year.
Dr. Paulk will then inform you of the different implant options. He will make his recommendation whether to use a saline or silicone implant. Each patient is encouraged to visit the Mentor Corporation web site for more detailed information. He will also ask you to visit the website to help you choose your desired surgical outcome. Please be aware that not all breast characteristics can be corrected.
Breast augmentation is an outpatient surgery which takes approximately one hour. Dr. Paulk will discuss with you the risks and complications of this surgery. Most patients return to work in one week. Light physical activity must be maintained for 2-3 additional weeks. Your medications before and after surgery will be discussed with you on an individual basis.
You will be discharged from the hospital with post operative instructions regarding wound care and follow-up visits with Dr.Paulk. You can minimize complications by carefully following the directions you are given.
